چکیده
Micro composites are commonly characterized in bulk. Here we study the temperature triggered release of a bioactive compound from single isolated microcapsules. We monitor the release process in real-time using a novel thermal microscopy method combining laser-induced heating and fluorescence imaging.

Sustained Release of Bioactive Compounds from Polymer Microcapsules for Smart Dental Composites
Natural plant extracts have been shown as effective and attractive dental biomaterials with promising properties for restorative/reparative procedures. These bioactive extracts, however, may lose their stability when exposed to air, moisture, or light, if not well-protected. Here, we present a novel technique for sequestering bioactive extracts within polymer microcapsules for long-term stabili...
متن کاملChemicals on demand with phototriggerable microcapsules.
We report the development of phototriggerable microcapsules and demonstrate the concept of protection and remote release of chemical species. Light-rupturable, liquid-filled microcapsules were prepared by coencapsulation of carbon nanotubes using a simple and robust interfacial polymerization technique. The incorporation of carbon nanotubes endows the microcapsules with the ability to respond t...
متن کاملBiointerfacing polymeric microcapsules for in vivo near-infrared light-triggered drug release.
Seeking safe and effective water-soluble drug carriers is of great significance in nanomedicine. To achieve this goal, we present a novel drug delivery system based on biointerfacing hollow polymeric microcapsules for effectively encapsulating water-soluble antitumor drug and gold nanorod (GNR) functionalization for triggered release of therapeutic drugs on-demand using low power near-infrared ...
متن کاملOsmotic Pressure Triggered Rapid Release of Encapsulated Enzymes with Enhanced Activity
In this study, a single-step microfluidic approach is reported for encapsulation of enzymes within microcapsules with ultrathin polymeric shell for controlled release triggered by an osmotic shock. Using a glass capillary microfluidic device, monodisperse water-in-oil-in-water double emulsion droplets are fabricated with enzymes in the core and an ultrathin middle oil layer that solidifies to p...
متن کاملNumerical Investigation of Thermally Triggered Release Kinetics of Double Emulsion for Drug Delivery Using Phase Change Material
A numerical model has been developed to investigate the thermally triggered release kinetics for drug delivery using phase change material as shell of microcapsules. Biocompatible material n-Eicosane is used as demonstration. PCM shell of microcapsule will remain in solid form after the drug is taken, so the drug will be encapsulated by the shell, and will not be released until the target body ...
